How did we solve the issue with the storage of automobile bodywork parts at the company Velas |Ltd.
1. What was the problem?
The company Velas sells automobile bodywork parts of different dimensions and weights. Classic shelving systems would have been unacceptable for them due to the lack of visibility and unused space resulting in higher storage costs and a slower response time to urgent customers’ needs.
2. How did we approach the issue and what sort of solutions did we offer?
a) Familiarizing with the issue
Firstly, we had a detailed discussion with the customer about their wishes and vision of the design with regard to the range of the products in storage and the intended work organization.
b) Analyzing the problem
With the analysis of a few different design variants it was established that the best way of storage was a two-level landing with a shelving system with the sections for the categorization of large bodywork parts. For shelving fillers we suggested the metal galvanized fillers which are very durable.
c) Reasons for the decision
A solution with a two-level landing was in their case the best choice because of the height utilization of the storage area and the manual handling of the pieces.
Vertical transportation was solved by using a forklift truck and a cargo lift with three stages:
- The first stage on the floor
- The second stage on the first level
- The third stage on the second level
The issue of horizontal transportation was successfully solved using wire meshed trolleys - trolleys with bigger frames.
3. What benefits did Velas enjoy from its cooperation with us?
- Fast and optimal handling in the storage facility
- Maximum utilization of the volume of space
- Greater visibility of the stock
Possible damage of the products in storage and handling are minimal
